Chris Adelsbach is a London-based entrepreneur, angel investor, and mentor. He is the founder and Managing Partner of Outrun Ventures, alongside Tariq Khan. Outrun Ventures invests primarily in pre-Seed and Seed stage startups, with a focus on fintech, insurance, and DeFi. Previously, Adelsbach co-founded Marlin Financial Group, which he sold in 2014 to a NASDAQ-listed entity. Adelsbach has backed five Seed-stage fintech companies in Africa between April 2015 and February 2023, totaling $19.0M in investments. His portfolio includes Curacel and Kuda in Nigeria, Kwara in Kenya, and Dopay in Egypt. These investments highlight his interest in innovative fintech solutions addressing claims processing, banking access, fee-free mobile banking, and instant payroll. He has co-invested with prominent players such as Y Combinator, Tencent, and Breega. Adelsbach was named the most active fintech angel in Europe by Sifted (2021-2023), number one Seed investor in Europe by Business Insider (2022), and UKBAA Angel Investor of the Year (2018/19).
