Urubuto Education System

Urubuto Education System is a web-based school management system for schools and education institutions in Rwanda, combining administration, academic management, communication, and cashless school-fee payments.

Key capabilities include:

• Cashless fees payments (UrubutoPay) with real-time payment updates, instant reconciliation per transaction, and payment notifications, reducing the need for payment slips. Payment is free for payers (only transaction fees apply), and it is integrated with MTN Mobile Money, Airtel Money, Umwalimu SACCO, and Bank of Kigali for automatic fee payment.
• Fees management and reporting, including fees collection reporting plus automated fee reminders and notifications.
• School, student, and staff management, with school profile setup and detailed profiles for learners and staff, plus a parent mobile portal.
• Academic and student life tools (Standard plan), including timetable management, grading and transcript management, course material upload, student behavior management, and attendance management for students and staff.

Available on Web (browser login) with a dedicated Parents Portal, plus an Android app on Google Play (UrubutoEdu).

It serves a B2B2C model, sold to schools and institutions, while parents and students use the portals for payments, information access, and communication.

Notable in the Rwandan market for its focus on cashless school-fee payments integrated into school administration, and its freemium packaging: a free Basic plan (UrubutoPay), an upgrade path to Standard (adds the academic and student-life tools), and a Premium plan listed as coming soon (planned to add HR/payroll, dormitory and transport management, library management, and more). The product is built by BK TecHouse, a subsidiary of BK Group PLC (Bank of Kigali's parent group), founded in 2016 and based in Kigali, Rwanda.
