It restructured under SBM Holdings as a non-operating holding company, with SBM Bank (Mauritius) Ltd as its main banking subsidiary. The bank expanded into Madagascar in 1998 as a full retail bank, into Kenya in 2017 (acquiring Fidelity Commercial Bank, then absorbing the bulk of Chase Bank Kenya's assets in 2018), and also runs smaller branches in India (Mumbai, Chennai, and Hyderabad) focused mainly on corporate and trade banking.

In Mauritius alone, the bank reports MUR 322.2 billion in total assets and MUR 279.3 billion in deposits (December 2025), across 45 branches, 137 ATMs, and around 565,000 customers.
