MauBank traces back to 2003, when the government merged the New Co-operative Bank and the Post Office Savings Bank to form Mauritius Post and Cooperative Bank (MPCB). In 2016, MPCB acquired the assets and liabilities of the National Commercial Bank and rebranded as MauBank Ltd. The bank is 100% state-owned: MauBank Holdings Ltd holds nearly all of MauBank's shares and is itself wholly owned by the Government of Mauritius.

MauBank is Mauritius's third-largest bank, with around 850 employees and 19 branches, including one on Rodrigues island, plus extended access through 102 Mauritius Post outlets. It has also been recognized by J.P. Morgan Payments for payment quality.
