In Africa, SOSV participated in four seed-stage investments totaling $5.2 million from October 2018 to October 2023. The firm backed companies in Nigeria (three investments) and Kenya (one), targeting fintech (two), travel and mobility (one), and edtech (one). Investments included Tappi ($1.5M, Kenya, fintech), GFA Technologies ($2.5M, Nigeria, fintech), Treepz ($1.2M, Nigeria, travel and mobility), and HITCH (Nigeria, edtech). SOSV has co-invested alongside partners such as ODBA & Co Ventures, Mercy Corps Ventures, and others including Orbit Startups, which originated from SOSV and focuses on emerging markets.
