LGT Venture Philanthropy

LGT Venture Philanthropy is an independent charitable foundation established by LGT Group Foundation in 2007. Headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, it partners with locally rooted organizations to deliver scalable solutions addressing systemic challenges in health, education, and environment. The foundation provides funding, business expertise, and access to networks to strengthen these organizations. LGT Venture Philanthropy has invested in fintech companies in Kenya, including three funding rounds in M-KOPA from February 2015 to March 2022, totaling $97.5 million. These investments spanned venture rounds and a Series D stage, focusing on pay-as-you-go smartphones and essential products. The foundation co-invested with partners such as Generation Investment Management and CDC Group. The foundation's portfolio emphasizes Sub-Saharan Africa and India, with a history of disbursing over $150 million to more than 80 organizations since inception. It supports growth-stage organizations for long-term impact.
