Details
Techpoint Africa's December 2025 feature asks why a Franco-Beninese founder built a fintech in Nigeria rather than in France or Benin. Achille grew up in Benin. The feature says that at about age eight, after a move to a cyber class at school, an older boy took Achille to a cybercafé. Techpoint calls it self-taught programming. Achille found French-language resources such as Comment Ça Marche, Le Site du Zéro and Developpez.com, and describes the approach as unstructured, just consuming everything. Formal study followed at a multinational school sponsored by national telecom companies across West Africa, then engineering studies in France.
A January 2023 profile in We Are Tech Africa lists Achille's qualifications. A bachelor's in telecom computing at ESMT came in 2012. Engineering degrees followed from Riga Technical University in 2015 and the Université de technologie de Belfort-Montbéliard in 2016. Achille interned at Bénin Télécoms in 2011 and 2012 and at AREVA NP in 2014. A full-stack developer job at the AI startup Smartly.AI ran from December 2017 to July 2018. In 2018, Achille co-founded OyaPay and served as its technology director until 2019. Skylar Labs, which builds a platform that lets SMEs create their own chatbots, was another co-founding venture.
In 2019, Achille joined Paystack as a senior software engineer, the 2023 profile says. From 2020 to 2022, the profile says, Achille worked as technical lead. Techpoint says Achille first came to Nigeria in 2019 while working at Paystack. Achille says Nigeria, especially Lagos, felt alive compared with Benin, where the tech ecosystem is almost non-existent, and calls Nigeria an ecosystem where building made sense.
We Are Tech Africa profiled Achille in January 2023 and gives 2021 as the year Bujeti was founded. The profile says Bujeti began as a tool for migrants to plan and track money sent to families in Africa. The platform was then extended to all Africans, the profile adds that budgeting problems also hit most African businesses, and it describes a pivot to a full B2B budgeting and expense-management product. The same piece reports that Bujeti was selected for the Winter 2023 batch of Y Combinator, among 94 companies worldwide.
Techpoint's December 2025 feature says Achille did not plan to start Bujeti as a company and first built an app for personal remittance problems. By Techpoint's account, Bujeti launched as a business-to-customer product in 2022 and fully became a business-to-business product in 2023. The January 2023 profile above also describes the B2B pivot. Both tie the early product to sending money home.
