NovaBeam IoT

NovaBeam IoT is an NB-IoT smart metering and grid intelligence platform for electricity service providers and ecosystem partners operating distribution grids in Djibouti, Somalia, and Ethiopia.

Key capabilities span commercial operations and network visibility, built on 15-minute interval telemetry from connected meters:

• Smart metering and meter data management: DLMS/COSEM-based connectivity, interval reads, tamper events, and energy balancing to reconcile transformer delivery against metered consumption.
• Prepaid and postpaid revenue operations: prepaid token generation and over-the-air delivery, postpaid billing support, remote connect/disconnect, and a configurable tariff engine (time-of-use, block, flat rates).
• Mobile money and USSD collections: native reconciliation for D-Money, EVC Plus, Telebirr, and CBE Birr, plus USSD top-ups to reduce cash handling and manual collections.
• Outage and loss intelligence: “last-gasp” style outage signals, alerting and crew dispatch, theft and non-technical loss analytics (including zone ranking), plus voltage and power quality monitoring.

Target users include state and private electricity utilities, telecom network partners, regulators and government agencies, development finance institutions, and infrastructure investors supporting grid upgrades.

It is notable for being explicitly designed around East African utility realities such as prepaid-first operations, mobile money-native payments, intermittent connectivity (NB-IoT with 4G/2G fallback), and multi-tenant deployment for multiple operators on a shared cloud platform.
