Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) will distribute Anchorpoint’s HKDAP HKD stablecoin to eligible clients, targeting fund settlement, treasury, and trade payments.
Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) said it is now an authorised distributor of HKDAP, a Hong Kong dollar-backed stablecoin issued by Anchorpoint.
HKDAP, short for “HKD At Par”, is positioned as a regulated stablecoin. A stablecoin is a crypto-style digital token that aims to keep a steady value, usually by being backed with reserves.
As a distributor, the bank plans to help eligible institutional clients and partners access and use HKDAP in day-to-day business flows. Standard Chartered is also the largest shareholder of Anchorpoint, and said it has been working with the subsidiary on practical use cases.
The first planned use cases include tokenised money market fund subscriptions and settlement. This means investors buy into a fund and settle the payment using a blockchain-based token, instead of traditional banking cut-off times.
Standard Chartered also plans to use HKDAP for intragroup settlement. That is the internal movement of money between entities in the same group to manage treasury and liquidity.
Another focus is cross-border trade payments. The pitch is faster and more predictable transfers, using on-chain settlement, meaning the transaction is recorded and completed on a blockchain network.
Standard Chartered said it expects to launch tokenised money market fund subscription and settlement pilots with asset managers in Q4.
This is a sign that regulated stablecoins are moving beyond crypto trading and into mainstream institutional workflows.
For multinational companies, 24/7 settlement could reduce delays tied to banking hours, manual reconciliation, and correspondent banking steps.
For African fintech operators and banks watching global rails, Hong Kong’s approach may become a reference point for how stablecoin distribution can be done through licensed banks, not only through crypto exchanges.
It also adds momentum to tokenised deposits and stablecoin-based settlement as a competing layer to existing cross-border payment networks.
