Standard Chartered is reshuffling its Group Management Team. From Oct 1, Group COO Tanuj Kapilashrami adds operations, resilience and GBS.
Standard Chartered is changing how some senior teams report. From 1 October 2026, Group COO Tanuj Kapilashrami will take on more internal operations, while Noelle Eder stays in charge of technology.
Standard Chartered said it is expanding the remit of its Group Chief Operating Officer. Tanuj Kapilashrami, appointed to the role in May, will now also lead non-client-facing operations.
That includes payments and transaction processing, trade operations, and reconciliation services. Reconciliation is the internal matching of records, like checking the bank’s books against what actually moved.
Tanuj will also take responsibility for Group Resilience and Global Business Services. Resilience is the planning that keeps critical services running during disruptions such as outages, cyber incidents, or supplier failures. Global Business Services typically means shared internal teams that run repeatable work across the bank, like operations support and process automation.
Standard Chartered said the shift is meant to align transformation oversight with day-to-day execution. In simple terms, the same leadership team that sets the “change plan” will now directly run more of the “how work gets done” parts.
Noelle Eder will continue as Group Head, Technology. The bank framed this as giving the technology organisation more focus and capacity to push its technology agenda.
For African fintechs and enterprise software vendors that connect to Standard Chartered, changes like this can affect how quickly integrations, settlements, and operational processes evolve. Payments processing and trade operations sit at the heart of cross-border money movement, correspondent banking, and corporate treasury workflows.
Putting more of these operational layers under the COO can also signal tighter performance targets, more standardisation, and faster rollout of internal tooling. For founders selling compliance, resilience, and back-office automation software, it is a reminder that banks keep investing in execution, not only customer-facing apps.
Standard Chartered operates across many high-growth markets, including several in Africa. How it organises operations and technology can shape service reliability and product delivery timelines for businesses that depend on the bank’s rails.
