OPay is preparing a Nigerian Exchange listing as it also targets a US IPO at about a $4B valuation. Key details like timing and offer size are pending.
OPay is preparing plans for a Nigerian Exchange listing, according to people familiar with the matter. The fintech company is expected to make a formal announcement soon.
A listing is when a company’s shares become available for trading on a public stock market. If OPay proceeds, it could become one of Nigeria’s biggest technology listings.
Details are still limited. The timing, offer size, valuation for the local market, and the percentage of shares that could be sold to investors have not been disclosed.
OPay did not comment on the reported plans. The company has previously been linked to preparations for a US initial public offering, which is the first time a company sells shares to the public on a stock exchange.
A local NGX listing would give Nigerian retail and institutional investors a direct way to own part of OPay. For years, many high-growth fintechs with large Nigerian user bases have remained private or have leaned toward overseas listings.
The NGX has been pushing for more local participation in fast-growing digital businesses. Earlier in August, NGX Group CEO Temi Popoola urged President Bola Tinubu to back measures that encourage large companies earning significant revenue in Nigeria to list locally. He cited OPay and PalmPay as examples of fintechs considering overseas IPO routes.
The numbers show why this matters for capital markets and for fintech watchers. An investment document cited by Nairametrics said OPay processed $358 billion in gross transaction value in 2025, up 115% year on year. Revenue reportedly rose 161% to $536.3 million, and operating income turned positive at $107.1 million after an operating loss in 2024.
Nigeria remains OPay’s biggest market, accounting for 88.1% of revenue in 2025. If OPay lists on NGX, it could also set a template for future dual listings, where a company lists in two markets to reach both global and local investors.
