Medbook

Medbook is a clinical operating system for emerging health systems, built for hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, laboratories, insurers, and patients that need one connected medical record across the care journey.

It combines six integrated modules around a single patient identity and record:

• AphiaOne (HMIS) for clinical workflows, visit tracking, revenue reconciliation, lab turnaround visibility, and clinical alerts.
• AphiaRx (pharmacy management) for dispensing with prescription verification to help pharmacies confirm whether a prescription is real and current.
• Mediclaim (claims adjudication) for insurers and schemes, supporting high-volume claims processing (reported 300K+ claims/month at peak).
• Mediwrite (underwriting) for closed-loop underwriting for medical schemes.
• AphiaLab (laboratory interfaces) for laboratory networks and equipment integrations.
• AphiaApp (patient app) for patient record access, family management, appointments, and prescriptions, available in English and Kiswahili.

Target users include provider networks (hospitals and clinics), pharmacies, labs, insurers and schemes, plus individuals and families via the patient app.

Notable in East Africa for long-running deployment (est. 2014) across Kenya and Uganda, reporting 74 active facilities and 9.8M+ patient records, plus a learning clinical decision support (CDSS) feedback loop built under a Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation grant. The company also publishes governance and compliance markers, including ODPC 396-0803-6E28 and ISO 27001 aligned.
