Milken Institute | FasterCures is a center within the Milken Institute focused on accelerating medical research and innovation. It works to improve the biomedical research system through collaboration, patient advocacy, and translational science. Led by executives like Esther Krofah, executive vice president of Health, it supports clinical trials, disease prevention, and research infrastructure. In October 2024, FasterCures participated in six funding rounds totaling $600K, primarily in early-stage investments across Africa. It focused on fintech companies in Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, and Ethiopia, with one agritech investment in Uganda. Stages included other rounds and one unspecified venture round, co-investing with the Motsepe Foundation in each. Companies backed include AZA Finance and Chumz in Kenya, Verto in Nigeria, Oze in Ghana, Chapa in Ethiopia, and FarmPawa in Uganda.
