Baro English

Baro English is an English-learning platform for Somali speakers, offering CEFR-aligned courses from A1 to C2 with structured daily lessons and exam preparation. Founded by Abdihajir Abdinoor and headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, the platform positions itself as "Somalia's Premier English Academy" and reports serving more than 1,000 learners.

Key capabilities include:

• CEFR course paths (A1-C2) with a daily lesson format, including vertical video instruction, plus practice activities such as homework, speaking, vocabulary, and listening.
• Speaking Lab with AI accent matching, where learners listen to a teacher's model audio, record their voice, and compare pronunciation (described as private).
• IELTS and TOEFL preparation resources, including dedicated prep sections and course content for advanced levels.
• Practice library and learning resources, such as 30+ video challenges/tests, vocabulary tools (Word Lab and Vocabulary), and Somali-explained grammar.

Available on Web (PWA/instant web app install) and Android (Google Play app); the site also lists a browser extension.

Built for B2C learners, especially Somali speakers in Somalia, Kenya, and East Africa, plus the global Somali diaspora, including university students preparing for IELTS/TOEFL, business professionals, and international travelers and emigrants.

Notable for combining a CEFR-based curriculum, a placement test to help select the right level, and East Africa-focused access and payments (including M-PESA, EVC PLUS, ZAAD, SAHAL, and cards via Stripe).
