How people profiles work
Where a person's profile comes from, what the submission form keeps private, who can change a profile, and how to ask for a correction or a removal.
People profiles on Liners
A person appears on Liners when they work, or worked, on a product in the directory. Every profile starts from public professional information: the person's name, their role, the product they build, and links they publish themselves.
A profile page carries only what a person would put on a public work page. Liners does not publish home addresses, personal phone numbers, private email addresses, salary, family details or anything else that is not professional and public.
Where the information comes from
A profile is built from one or more of these:
- Public company data. Team pages, product sites and licensed company data. How Liners sources product and company data covers these sources.
- The person, or someone on their team. Anyone can add a person through the profile form. The person named on the profile can complete their own.
- Liners research. Editors and research agents add background, milestones and a written story from published interviews, talks, articles and public posts.
A profile can also list the public pages it draws on in a Sources section at the end of the profile.
Adding a profile
The form asks for the person's name, role and product first, then links, background, milestones and their story. It also asks for a link that proves the connection to the product, such as a LinkedIn profile or a team page.
A submission never publishes itself. It goes to the Liners review queue, an editor checks it, and Liners writes the profile in the house style before it goes live. The person gets an email when it is published. If Liners cannot verify it, the submission is rejected with a reason.
Nobody can publish a profile by filling in the form. Every submission gets a review.
What stays private
Two answers from the form never appear on the profile, in search, or in any Liners API:
- The proof link that shows the connection to the product.
- The private note to reviewers.
Liners uses both to check the submission and nothing else.
Who can change a profile
| Profile state | How to change it |
|---|---|
| Live | Use Suggest Edits on the profile page. A reviewer checks every suggestion. See how suggestions work. |
| Listed, no story yet | Use the Is this you? Complete your profile link on the page, which opens the form with the public details filled in. |
The gold tick on a profile means Liners checked the content and the story, either from enough public information or by speaking with the person. How verification works explains the checks.
Ask for a correction or a removal
Anyone can ask Liners to correct or remove a person profile.
- Use Suggest Edits on the profile and choose Other, or
- email hello@liners.com from any address.
Say which profile you mean and what is wrong. Liners answers removal requests from the person named on the profile, and takes the page down on request. A removal takes the profile page, the person's entry on the product page, and the directory listing with it.
How Liners keeps profiles accurate
- Editors re-check profiles when a product, a role or a company changes.
- Company data syncs refresh roles and links; an editor's change is never overwritten by a sync.
- Reports and suggestions are handled under moderation and enforcement.
- The editorial standards apply to every written profile: facts first, sources where they matter, and no invented detail.
