SafeRide

SafeRide is an open-source, Android-first safety companion app for women using Nairobi’s public transport who need a private way to document harassment, capture evidence, and decide what to share.

Key capabilities focus on survivor control and offline reporting:

• Offline-first incident reporting that creates a local draft before any upload, then guides evidence capture, location and time details, legal framing, and consent decisions
• Four survivor-controlled pathways for each report: keep private, map anonymously, seek referral, or escalate, with a clear consent gate before sharing
• Privacy separation between evidence and route signals, allowing anonymous contribution to a Route Safety Index without exposing names, audio, or exact journeys
• Local legal and referral content packs covering Kenyan support pathways such as medical care, P3 forms, 1195, GBV centres, legal aid, and evidence safety, plus an on-device Gemma assistant scoped for guidance, transcription, and offence tagging

Available on Android.

Target users include women riding matatus and other public transport in Nairobi, with secondary stakeholders such as community organisations, transport operators, and partners who use de-identified route safety signals.

Notable in Kenya’s safety and access-to-justice context, the product emphasises “safety before scale” guardrails like zero forced uploads, redaction before escalation, and an auditable open-source stack (Android client, content packs, and local assistant scaffolding) developed by Esheria Ventures Limited.
