Nimiq Pay

Nimiq Pay is a self-custodial mobile crypto payment app that lets consumers pay with NIM at real-world points of sale, from restaurants to professional services, without going through an exchange or custodian.

Key capabilities include:

• Self-custodial wallet: funds are secured by a 12-word recovery phrase plus the device's biometrics, rather than held by Nimiq
• Direct, peer-to-peer payments in NIM, described by Nimiq as "100% peer-to-peer" with no intermediary
• Pay where BTC Lightning or Cryptopayment.link are accepted: the app converts NIM on Nimiq's own infrastructure so the merchant still settles in their expected currency, extending where NIM can be spent beyond dedicated NIM-only merchants
• Bluecode integration: listed as "coming soon" on the app's own page; as of the most recent public updates from the Nimiq team, this partnership remains in progress rather than live
• Mini apps: a documented SDK (window-embedded web apps with wallet access) lets third parties build experiences inside the app, including cashback and loyalty programs for opted-in users at sponsored locations
• Free to use: no cost to download or use the app itself; fees for specific integrations (e.g. Lightning conversions) aren't published

For African markets specifically, Nimiq's Cryptocity adoption campaign is confirmed live in The Gambia, run through a dedicated Cryptocity Africa network of partners supporting BTC, NIM, and USDT merchant acceptance; a community-proposed expansion into Nigeria has been discussed but is not yet live, and no confirmed merchant presence exists elsewhere on the continent beyond what the app's own Crypto Map may show for individual crypto-friendly locations.
