Uganda’s School Monitor Technologies launched School Monitor Version 2 after a US$10,000 Women in Tech Accelerator grant supported development work.
School Monitor Technologies runs a cloud-based school management platform called School Monitor for schools in Uganda and East Africa.
The startup says it built the product around how schools in the region operate, including support for SMS so parents can be reached on basic phones.
It has now launched School Monitor Version 2, after using a US$10,000 grant for development.
School Monitor Technologies was founded in 2022 by Annet Nuwayo and Vincent Matsiko. The company’s platform covers student record management, academic results entry and analysis, automated report card generation, staff attendance and leave management, asset and inventory tracking, fee collection and tracking, accounting, library management, and a parent communication portal.
Nuwayo said her experience as a trained teacher shaped the product. “From my experience, I understand how schools actually function, where the pressure points are, and what schools genuinely need from a digital tool,” she said.
She also described what the company sees as key differences from generic school software. Nuwayo said School Monitor includes an accounting module for revenues, expenses, budgeting, and payroll, and provides real-time reporting such as trial balance, balance sheet, and profit and loss statements. She added that the platform uses SMS to reach parents who do not have smartphones.
Nuwayo said Uganda has over 30,000 schools, and that most still run on paper, including handwritten ledgers for fee collection and manual report card production.
The startup says it has not taken external equity investment. It was built largely through bootstrapping and client subscription revenue, and it recently secured a catalytic grant of US$10,000 from the Standard Chartered Foundation’s Women in Tech Accelerator, implemented in Uganda by Innovation Village with support from Village Capital. Nuwayo said the grant funded development work on School Monitor Version 2, which has since launched.
School Monitor Technologies is positioning its platform as a fit for schools that need financial reporting and parent communication without relying on smartphone access.
The grant-backed release of Version 2 signals continued product investment while the company remains bootstrapped and subscription-funded.
