Fynbos Money added optional links to ChatGPT, Claude and other AI assistants, letting customers ask questions about their portfolios using read only data.
Fynbos Money is adding a way for customers to connect their investment portfolios to ChatGPT, Claude and other AI assistants.
The goal is to let investors ask plain language questions about their own holdings and get analysis based on their actual portfolio data.
Fynbos has also launched its first mobile app.
Fynbos Money is a Cape Town based savings and investments platform founded in 2024 by Adrian Hope-Bailie. The product consolidates multiple financial products in a single interface. Deposits flow into a central cash account first, then distribute automatically using a user’s custom rules.
With the new integration, customers can connect their Fynbos accounts to supported AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude. They can then ask questions like “Has my money actually grown, or have I just deposited more?”, “What am I actually invested in?” or “What could an extra R500 a month mean over 20 years?”.
Hope-Bailie said, “Investing has become far more accessible, but access to useful financial insight hasn’t necessarily kept pace. AI has the potential to change that. By giving people the ability to interrogate their own investment information, we can make useful financial insight much more accessible.”
Fynbos describes the approach as “bring your own intelligence”. Instead of building its own AI assistant, it lets customers use AI tools they already know.
The feature is built using Model Context Protocol, or MCP, which the company describes as an open standard that lets AI apps connect to external tools and data.
Fynbos says the connection is optional and read only. AI assistants cannot move money, buy or sell investments, switch funds, or make any other account changes.
Fynbos also notes that any information accessed through a connected AI assistant is subject to that provider’s privacy, data processing and retention policies.
Separately, Fynbos launched its first mobile app. It adds biometric login, faster performance and a more responsive mobile experience, and gives Fynbos access to security and usability features not available through its web platform.
