Paratus Zambia completed Starlink installations at 18 Family Legacy schools in Lusaka, bringing more reliable internet access to over 10,000 children.
Paratus Zambia says it has completed Starlink installations across 18 Family Legacy schools in Lusaka. The project aims to provide stable internet access for more than 10,000 vulnerable children.
Starlink is low earth orbit satellite internet, it works like a broadband connection delivered from space rather than a fibre cable or a nearby mobile tower. For schools that are far from cellular towers, or where fixed line infrastructure is limited, satellite connectivity can be deployed faster and with less ground equipment.
Paratus was selected as the connectivity partner because it is an authorised Starlink provider in Zambia. The company said it could deploy the service quickly across multiple school sites.
The new connectivity is already being used for teaching, administration, and digital learning. According to Family Legacy, students and staff can now access online tools more consistently, and ICT learners can do more research and use more learning platforms.
Paratus operates across several African markets under the wider Paratus brand, and has been building out fibre and satellite options to serve areas where traditional internet rollout is slow.
Zambia’s school connectivity gap is often less about demand and more about infrastructure constraints. When internet access depends on weak mobile coverage, unstable backhaul, or aging fixed lines, schools can lose teaching time and struggle to use digital content.
A fast, stable link can support basics like cloud documents, email, and online assessments. It can also unlock richer tools like video lessons and remote teacher training.
Family Legacy said it plans to expand its reach and continue strengthening digital access in its schools. If the model works at scale, it could become a repeatable playbook for connecting underserved schools in and around Lusaka, and beyond.
