Injini has launched the EdTech for Employment Incubation Programme, a two-year initiative running from October 2026 to September 2028. The programme will support 10 early-stage South African edtech startups.
Injini is a South African edtech incubator and a registered non-profit that focuses on improving education outcomes in Sub-Saharan Africa. It is part of the UVU Africa Group.
The programme is funded by the Leopold Bachmann Foundation, a Zurich-based funder. It will run two cohorts of five startups each.
Each cohort starts with recruitment and selection. It then moves into a six-month incubation period built around four pillars, product foundations, business sustainability, market access, and impact measurement.
Impact measurement means proving what changes the product creates, using evidence like user outcomes and reliable data, not just usage numbers. Injini says many edtech companies in the skills-to-jobs space struggle to get the structured support, access to customers, and proof points needed to scale.
Startups in the programme will get hands-on support from Injini’s team and access to specialist consultants matched to their needs. Founders will also get networking opportunities with ecosystem players and potential users.
South Africa’s youth unemployment rate was 46.1% in the first quarter of 2026, according to Stats SA. Injini says this points to a shortage of quality vocational and work-readiness pathways that connect young people to the economy.
By focusing on tools like teacher training platforms, tutoring and mentorship products, and work-readiness and digital skills programmes, Injini is backing a segment of edtech tied directly to jobs and income.
Injini says its targets over the two years include reaching 20,000 underserved youth, supporting up to 2,000 into work or income-generating opportunities, and creating 20 direct jobs within the cohort companies.
