HOSTAFRICA Launches MCP Server for AI VPS Management

What Happened

South African hosting provider HOSTAFRICA has rolled out an MCP server designed for AI-driven VPS management. A VPS is a virtual private server, which is a slice of a physical server you control like your own machine.

With MCP, an AI assistant can interact with a provider’s system using structured “tools” instead of guessing steps from documentation. In practice, a developer can type an instruction in plain English inside Claude or ChatGPT, and the AI can execute approved actions on the VPS.

HOSTAFRICA says its MCP server covers the full VPS lifecycle. That includes start, stop, and reboot actions, scheduled power events, backups and backup scheduling, firewall changes and port rules, and threshold-based monitoring alerts.

The company also said it has launched the HA CLI, a command line interface (a terminal tool for developers) to support the same workflow. Separately, HOSTAFRICA has relaunched its Client Area to streamline common tasks like hosting management, billing, and support.

On infrastructure and compliance, HOSTAFRICA says its VPS instances run in Tier 3 data centres in Johannesburg, with nodes in Nairobi, Lagos, and Accra. It bills in South African rand and says the platform is POPIA-compliant, which is South Africa’s data protection law.

Why It Matters

For developers and DevOps teams, MCP could reduce time spent jumping between dashboards, tickets, and documentation for routine server operations. It also pushes hosting providers into a new interface layer, where AI assistants become a primary way users manage cloud resources.

For regulated sectors, local data residency and support in South African time zones can matter as much as features. HOSTAFRICA is positioning MCP-based control as a faster workflow while keeping infrastructure anchored in African locations.
