Elevate Pay will reimburse eligible users $2.99 per month from Sept 1, 2026, offsetting Upwork’s new Direct to U.S. Bank withdrawal fee.
Elevate Pay announced an Upwork Reward Campaign starting September 1, 2026. Eligible users who receive at least $500 from Upwork in a month can get a $2.99 reward to offset Upwork’s new withdrawal fee.
Elevate Pay is rolling out a new reward for freelancers who get paid through the product. The campaign is tied to a change on Upwork.
From September 1, 2026, Upwork will charge freelancers outside the US $2.99 each time they withdraw earnings using “Direct to U.S. Bank.” This withdrawal route was previously free.
To respond, Elevate Pay says eligible users can earn a $2.99 reward when they receive Upwork earnings into their Elevate Pay account. The reward is meant to cover that new Upwork fee.
The rules are specific. Users need to receive at least $500 in total Upwork payments into Elevate Pay within the same calendar month. That $500 can come from one transfer or multiple payments added together.
If a user qualifies, they can receive one $2.99 reward per calendar month. Elevate Pay says the credit will appear in the account transaction history as a reward.
To use it, a freelancer needs to add the US account details provided by Elevate Pay inside Upwork as their Direct to U.S. Bank withdrawal method. Existing users who already withdraw from Upwork into Elevate Pay do not need to change anything.
For many African freelancers and other remote workers, getting paid from global platforms can come with extra costs. Even small fees add up when someone withdraws frequently.
This move is also a customer acquisition play. A predictable rebate can encourage freelancers to route more of their cross-border payouts through Elevate Pay, especially those who use US bank details to receive USD earnings.
The bigger signal is that payout platforms are now competing on fee relief and total take-home pay, not just account setup and speed.
