Coopbank Alhuda and Kifiya Financial Technology launched Michuu Mizan, an AI powered digital platform for Sharia compliant MSME financing.
Coopbank has launched Michuu-Mizan, a Sharia-compliant digital financing platform.
The platform was launched through Coopbank Alhuda, Coopbank’s Interest-Free Banking unit, in partnership with Kifiya Financial Technology.
Michuu-Mizan targets Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, also called MSMEs.
Coopbank launched Michuu-Mizan at Sheraton Addis Hotel. The bank said the platform is designed to expand access to Sharia-compliant financing, meaning financing that follows Islamic rules.
Coopbank said the platform uses Artificial Intelligence, also called AI, and digital financial technology to address MSME financing needs. AI here refers to software that can learn from data and support decisions.
At the launch, Deribie Asfaw, CEO of Coopbank, said Michuu-Mizan will address challenges faced by businesses seeking financing aligned with their values. He also said Coopbank has disbursed over ETB 70 billion through its collateral-free digital lending service, Michu, and said the new platform expands the bank’s inclusive financing services.
Munir Duri, CEO of Kifiya Financial Technology, said the platform uses AI-driven, data-based decision-making and an advanced financial technology infrastructure. He said this will help underserved businesses access Sharia-compliant financing and support their growth.
Michuu-Mizan includes two financing options. Michuu-Mizan Yusra provides financing of up to ETB 100,000 to strengthen women’s economic participation. Michuu-Mizan Taajir offers eligible MSMEs financing of up to ETB 300,000 to support working capital requirements and business expansion.
Coopbank positioned Michuu-Mizan as part of its financial inclusion push for MSMEs that want Sharia-compliant financing.
It also adds new products on top of Coopbank’s existing collateral-free digital lending service, which the bank said has already disbursed over ETB 70 billion.
