Checker says MoneyGram is using its network to access stablecoin liquidity for treasury and FX operations, aiming for faster, more visible funding flows.
Checker said MoneyGram is using its network to add stablecoin capabilities to MoneyGram’s treasury and foreign exchange operations. Treasury teams manage liquidity, meaning they make sure there is enough cash in each country to pay out customers quickly.
In this setup, MoneyGram can convert dollars into USDC, a stablecoin that tracks the US dollar. It can then move that USDC across borders at any hour, including weekends. A local provider converts the USDC into local currency and funds MoneyGram’s payout accounts in that market.
Checker positions itself as a single integration layer for liquidity access. Instead of MoneyGram sourcing and connecting to multiple crypto exchanges, OTC desks (large trades done directly rather than on a public exchange), and local payment partners in each corridor, Checker says it provides one connection to a network of providers.
MoneyGram said it is using stablecoins alongside existing banking relationships. According to Checker, MoneyGram joins more than 35 regulated financial institutions across five continents using its network.
For remittance and payments firms, keeping payout accounts funded is a constant operational cost. Traditional international bank wires can involve correspondent banks, extra fees, cut-off times, and limited visibility on where funds are during settlement.
Stablecoins can reduce some of that friction by moving value digitally in near real time. That can help treasury teams top up markets faster and potentially hold less idle cash across many countries.
For African fintech and payments operators, the bigger signal is that stablecoins are being adopted for internal treasury and FX workflows, not just customer-facing crypto products. If more global networks move treasury flows on-chain, African corridors could see new liquidity options, and new compliance expectations, as stablecoin-based settlement becomes more common.
