tpay has been selected by Vodafone Qatar as its Direct Operator Billing aggregator after a competitive RFP, expanding a partnership that started in 2018.
Vodafone Qatar has picked tpay as its Direct Operator Billing aggregator. The deal expands a partnership that started in 2018.
tpay, which operates as a payments connectivity provider across the Middle East, Turkey, and Africa, said Vodafone Qatar selected it as its Direct Operator Billing aggregator after a competitive request for proposal process.
Direct Operator Billing, sometimes called carrier billing, lets users pay for digital goods by charging purchases to their mobile account, similar to adding it to an airtime or phone bill. This can help consumers who do not want to use cards, and it can reduce payment drop offs for digital merchants.
Under the agreement, tpay will provide the connectivity layer for Vodafone Qatar’s Direct Operator Billing services. In plain terms, merchants and digital service providers will integrate once with tpay Mobile, then use that connection to reach Vodafone Qatar customers who want to pay with mobile-based billing.
The companies said they have worked together since 2018. They also pointed to earlier launches delivered through the partnership, including Google Play and the Apple App Store.
Vodafone Qatar reported 2.1 million mobile subscribers in the first half of 2026. The new setup gives merchants a direct route to that base for eligible digital subscriptions and in-app purchases.
For mobile operators, Direct Operator Billing can increase digital services revenue without building every merchant relationship in house. Using an aggregator can also simplify compliance, reporting, and technical integrations.
For merchants and app stores, carrier billing can unlock more paying users, especially where cards are less common or where users prefer paying with their mobile number.
For African and Middle East payment ecosystems, the deal is another sign that telecom-linked payments remain a key distribution channel for digital content, subscriptions, and microtransactions.
