Bujeti Gets PCI DSS Certification for Card Data Security

What Happened: Bujeti PCI DSS Service Provider Certification

Bujeti said it has achieved Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard, PCI DSS, certification as a service provider. PCI DSS is a global security standard for companies that store, process, or transmit card payments, similar to a strict safety checklist for card data.

The company said the certification followed a full on-site assessment conducted by an independent Qualified Security Assessor, also called a QSA. A QSA is an external auditor approved by the PCI Security Standards Council, which is backed by major card networks like Visa and Mastercard.

Bujeti said the assessment covered its full cardholder data environment across corporate card issuance, payment processing, and its financial data infrastructure. The company referenced PCI DSS v4.0.1 requirements, which include network security, encryption for data at rest and in transit, access control, monitoring and logging, vulnerability management, and penetration testing.

Bujeti also said the certification is not a one-time badge. It plans quarterly external vulnerability scans by an Approved Scanning Vendor, quarterly internal scans, and annual reassessments by the QSA.

Why It Matters: PCI DSS Compliance for African Fintech and SMEs

For businesses using Bujeti for corporate cards and payment operations, PCI DSS certification can reduce vendor risk during procurement and compliance checks. It gives customers an externally validated answer when asked how card data is protected.

Bujeti also said customers do not store or transmit cardholder data themselves within its setup, which may lower the compliance burden on teams that would otherwise need to handle sensitive card data directly.

More broadly, PCI DSS service provider certification remains less common among Africa-focused fintech platforms. As more African companies sell globally and face stricter due diligence, independently audited security controls can become a differentiator.
