Accrue has renamed Savings to Pockets, merging Vault, Goal, and Challenge plans into one hub, plus Auto-route to split inflows automatically.
On September 14, 2026, Accrue announced that its Savings feature is now Pockets. The company said the change is meant to reduce a fragmented experience where users had to move between different savings plans, including Vault, Challenge, and Goal.
Pockets acts as a single home for saving inside the app. It groups four saving styles in one place.
Flexible Pockets are for users who want to withdraw at any time while still earning interest. Locked Pockets are for users who want to commit funds for a set period, and they earn interest while the money stays locked. Accrue says users can break a Locked Pocket early, but they will lose the interest earned.
Goal Pockets are built around a specific target, like relocation, a big purchase, or travel. Users contribute over time and earn interest as they save. Challenge Pockets add a social layer, letting users save with friends in shared challenges to stay accountable.
Alongside the rename, Accrue introduced Auto-route. This is an automatic allocation rule, similar to splitting a paycheck into different envelopes. Users can set percentages so that eligible inflows are distributed across their Pockets without manual transfers.
For consumer finance apps, savings features often sprawl into separate products as new use cases emerge. Accrue is betting that a single savings hub will be easier to understand and will drive higher usage.
Auto-route also pushes users toward consistent saving habits. By making the “where should this money go” decision once, the product reduces the effort needed each time funds come in. That can improve retention, especially for users juggling emergency funds, goals, and longer-term locked savings.
The update also signals stronger competition in Africa’s personal finance market, where apps are increasingly packaging interest-bearing balances, goal-based saving, and group saving into cleaner workflows.
