The International Trade Centre is a joint agency of the United Nations and the World Trade Organization that supports small and medium-sized enterprises in developing countries. While primarily known for trade development and business support services, the organization has extended its activities into investment and venture capital activities in Africa, focusing on emerging markets and entrepreneurial ecosystems. Between December 2021 and May 2023, the International Trade Centre invested in eight companies across West and East Africa, with a particular concentration in Senegal, Uganda, and Ghana. The portfolio demonstrates a strategic focus on fintech solutions, agricultural technology, and digital tools that address market gaps across the continent. Investments span payment systems and lending platforms such as Xente and Lupiya, insurance technology through Assuraf, agricultural connectivity via WamiAgro and Esoko, travel operations management with Tripesa, and digital research infrastructure through LOOKA and Lafricamobile.
