In Short

  • Yuno and Onafriq have launched a payments integration aimed at helping international merchants sell and get paid across Africa.
  • The deal plugs Onafriq’s Africa network into Yuno’s single API.
  • The integration is live in Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, and Uganda.

What Happened: Yuno and Onafriq Payments Infrastructure Deal

Yuno has partnered with Onafriq to expand Africa-wide payment access for international merchants. The companies say Yuno clients can now connect to Onafriq’s network across 43 African markets using Yuno’s single, developer-friendly API.

An API is a software connector that lets systems talk to each other, like a plug adapter for different sockets. In this case, it reduces the work needed for a merchant to add local payment methods and payout routes in multiple countries.

Onafriq’s network includes nearly 1 billion mobile wallets, 500 million bank accounts, and 2,000 cross-border payment corridors. Payment corridors are established routes for moving money between countries, often across multiple partners such as banks and mobile money operators.

The partnership targets a common problem for cross-border commerce in Africa, which is fragmented payment rails. Payment rails are the underlying systems that move money, such as bank transfers, card networks, and mobile money. Merchants expanding into multiple African markets often have to integrate each rail separately, deal with different rules, and maintain several vendor relationships.

Yuno said the Onafriq integration fits its broader push to build a global payments infrastructure layer after expansions in the Middle East, Europe, and Asia. Onafriq said the partnership extends its reach to more international merchants by providing a simpler entry point into African markets.

Why It Matters: Faster Go-Lives and Wider Mobile Money Reach

For global merchants, the biggest benefit is speed. A single integration can shorten time to launch in new countries and reduce engineering overhead, especially when mobile money is a primary way many consumers pay.

For Africa-focused fintech and commerce operators, this also signals stronger demand for “one-to-many” infrastructure, where a platform bundles multiple local payment options behind one connection. That can increase competition among payment infrastructure providers, while pushing the market toward simpler onboarding and more reliable cross-border payment execution.
