In Short

  • YouSend has launched its remittance app in the UK and Canada.
  • The app supports transfers to Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, and Tanzania, and says 95% of transfers complete in under two minutes.
  • YouSend says EU and US launches are coming in the next few weeks.

What Happened

YouSend has expanded into the UK and Canada with a cross-border remittance app aimed at African immigrants. The company says users can send money to Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, and Tanzania in minutes, with transparent exchange rates and 24/7 availability.

The product, Yousend, is built on stablecoin settlement infrastructure. Stablecoins are cryptocurrencies designed to track the value of a currency like the US dollar, similar to a digital dollar token. In this setup, the stablecoin layer helps move money between partners faster, instead of relying on prefunded float, meaning money parked in advance across multiple bank accounts to handle payouts.

YouSend says this structure reduces delays caused by banking cut-off times, weekends, and public holidays. The company also leans on live human support, not only automated chatbots, and says its support team is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Before the public launch, YouSend says it processed over $1 million in transfers, driven mainly by referrals. It reports that 95% of transactions were completed in under two minutes.

On licensing, the company says it is authorised by the UK Financial Conduct Authority, registered with FINTRAC in Canada, and licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Why It Matters

The UK and Canada are large diaspora corridors for African remittances, but senders still face slow settlement, unclear FX rates, and limited support when transfers fail. If YouSend’s stablecoin-based settlement holds up at scale, it could pressure other remittance providers to improve speed and transparency.

The planned EU and US rollout also matters because these regions are key sources of inbound remittances to Africa. Wider coverage could help YouSend compete across more corridors, but it will also increase compliance and operations complexity as it adds more regulators, banking partners, and payout networks.
