Telecel Ghana Launches SecureNet Mobile Cybersecurity

Telecel Ghana launched SecureNet, a network-level security service that blocks phishing and malicious websites for mobile data users. It is offered as a paid add-on with daily, weekly, and monthly subscription options.

What Happened

Telecel Ghana, listed on Liners as Telecel, has partnered with global cybersecurity firm Whalebone to launch SecureNet for its mobile subscribers.

SecureNet is a network-level security feature. That means protection happens inside the telecom network, not inside an app on your phone. Customers do not need to install extra software to use it.

Telecel says SecureNet blocks phishing attempts, scam links, malicious websites, and fake shopping platforms in real time. Phishing is when attackers trick you into sharing passwords, PINs, or mobile money details by pretending to be a trusted brand.

The service is deployed through Whalebone’s local partner, AntCellular. When a subscriber using Telecel mobile data tries to open a site flagged as dangerous, SecureNet can stop the connection before the page loads.

Telecel Ghana says the product is part of its push for safer digital access as more people use mobile connectivity for banking, ecommerce, communication, and essential services.

Why It Matters

Mobile-first economies create new fraud routes. As more users bank and shop through smartphones, attackers also shift to mobile money scams, fake bank pages, and social engineering, which is fraud that relies on persuasion rather than hacking.

Network-level blocking can reduce risk for everyday users who may not run antivirus tools or keep phones updated. It also gives telecom operators a new way to offer security as a value-added service, and potentially reduce customer support costs tied to fraud complaints.

SecureNet pricing is set at GH¢0.33 per day, GH¢2 per week, or GH¢7 per month. Telecel customers can subscribe by dialling *427#.
