Egypt’s Planning Ministry met with Sahl and other National Investment Bank-linked entities to discuss expanding electronic payment instruments for public services.
Sahl was discussed in a meeting chaired by Ahmed Rostom, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, focused on plans to introduce and expand electronic payment instruments for public services.
Electronic payment instruments are digital ways to pay, such as payments made through a mobile app. Rostom said the ministry is studying the introduction of “new and advanced” electronic payment instruments to expand the user base domestically and internationally.
Rostom said the work is part of the ministry’s strategy to maximise the potential of the National Investment Bank (NIB) and its subsidiaries. He named NI Capital, Ayady and Sahl.
The meeting included Osama Saleh, CEO of Ayady Investment, Dalia Mostafa, Acting Managing Director and Vice Chairperson of the National Investment Bank, and senior officials from Sahl for Electronic Payment and NI Capital. Discussions also covered strengthening executive cooperation between Ayady and Sahl.
Rostom also highlighted what he called a “successful example” of institutional partnerships, a cooperation between Sahl and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates. He said it enables Egyptians living abroad to pay fees for public services through Sahl’s mobile application.
The ministry said it wants to make public service payments more accessible to citizens inside and outside Egypt. Rostom said the ministry plans to set a clear implementation timeline and specific key performance indicators (KPIs), meaning measurable targets, to support delivery.
He also said there is a need to immediately begin studying and developing electronic payment instruments to support the state’s efforts to automate services. Automation here means moving government service processes from manual steps to digital systems.
