NCBA Group has added private motor insurance to the LOOP app in Kenya, letting users compare quotes, buy, renew, and access policy documents digitally.
NCBA Group has added private motor insurance to the LOOP app. Customers can compare quotes, buy cover, renew policies, and download documents in one place.
NCBA said the new feature is now available inside Loop. The bank group added private motor insurance so customers can complete the full purchase journey in the app, instead of moving between agents, branches, and paper forms.
The service was developed by NCBA subsidiaries LOOP DFS and NCBA Insurance. It is available to eligible customers who have valid motor vehicle logbooks, which are the official documents that prove vehicle ownership.
Users can choose from three options. Third Party Cover pays for injury or property damage caused to other people, not the insured car. Standard Comprehensive Cover adds protection for the insured vehicle itself, including accidents, theft, and fire. Premier Comprehensive Cover includes the standard comprehensive benefits, plus extra services that NCBA has not fully detailed.
NCBA Insurance CEO Stella Njung’e said the goal is to reduce the number of steps needed to purchase motor insurance. The app flow aims to make buying and renewing cover more like any other digital checkout, with policy documents stored inside the app.
Motor insurance is one of the most common insurance products, but it often involves manual processes. Putting quote comparison and renewals inside a banking app can reduce friction, which is the small hassles that make people delay or avoid buying cover.
NCBA also pointed to Kenya’s low insurance penetration of about 2.4 percent. Penetration means the share of economic activity covered by insurance, and it is often used as a proxy for how widely insurance is adopted.
For fintech and insurance operators, this is another sign of bancassurance growth in East Africa. That is when banks bundle and sell insurance through their channels, including mobile apps, to reach more customers at lower distribution cost.
