MoneyHash is powering the payments infrastructure of Luno. The companies say this helps Luno launch local payment options faster and recover deposits that would otherwise have failed.
MoneyHash is an Egyptian payment orchestration startup founded in 2021 by Nader Abdelrazik and Mustafa Eid. It has built a proprietary payment orchestration platform and an end to end payment operating system.
Payment orchestration is software that connects multiple payment providers in one layer, so a business can manage them centrally rather than building separate integrations for each provider.
MoneyHash said it is now routing Luno’s more than 25 payment providers and local bank connections through its platform. Luno previously had to build, maintain and monitor these connections itself.
With MoneyHash, Luno can manage payments centrally and direct transactions based on provider performance. When one provider fails, it can try an alternative route. The companies said this helped Luno recover one in four deposits that might otherwise have been lost.
Cornel Smit, head of payments at Luno, said: “Having MoneyHash handle our payment integrations meant our internal teams didn’t have to spend capacity managing payment rails. We can focus our engineering energy where it belongs: on revenue generation and building products for our users.”
Abdelrazik said MoneyHash’s role is to “take the complexity out of managing multiple payment providers, so Luno’s teams can move faster, improve payment performance and keep their focus on building for their customers”.
As Luno grows across markets, payment complexity tends to rise, especially when local payment options require different providers and bank connections.
MoneyHash’s approach aims to reduce engineering work on integrations and improve payment success rates by switching routes when transactions fail. For a platform handling deposits, recovering failed transactions can directly affect customer experience and operational load.
