What Happened

In its new 2025 Annual Report, Maisha Meds said its network grew across Africa, with full-time operations in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Nigeria.

The company reported 63 million patient visits to date, including 25.6 million visits in 2025 alone. It also said 1.2 million of those visits were directly supported by its “reimbursement-driven” health programs. Reimbursement-driven means care is paid for after a service is verified, similar to how an insurance claim is checked before it is paid.

A key update was a shift from donor-funded care to government-financed care. Maisha Meds said Lagos State adopted its malaria program into the state budget. In Uganda, it said it received its first Global Fund award to scale malaria care and HIV prevention nationwide. The Global Fund is a large international financing program that supports countries to fight diseases like malaria and HIV.

The report also highlights the backend systems behind its model, including auditing and claims platforms. These tools help verify services delivered, so governments and funders can pay for measured results rather than inputs.

Across African health systems, funding is tightening and scrutiny on results is rising. Programs that can prove what happened on the ground, and link payments to verified outcomes, are more likely to keep getting financed.

Lagos State budgeting for a malaria program is also a signal other states and countries may watch closely.
