Kopo Kopo K2 Connect V2 Adds Payment Links and Reversals

Kopo Kopo has released K2 Connect V2, a new version of its payments API for businesses building M-PESA payments into their own software.

What Happened

K2 Connect V2 adds new API features for teams that want to accept and manage payments inside their apps, POS systems, and back-office tools. Kopo Kopo says the goal is faster launches and smoother checkout and payout flows.

In Version 2, businesses can trigger reversals from within their own systems. A reversal is a way to undo a transaction when something goes wrong, like a wrong amount or a cancelled order. This means staff do not need to switch to the Kopo Kopo app to start the process.

The update also introduces payment links. This lets a business generate a link, share it with a customer, and get notified when the payment succeeds. It is aimed at periodic payments, like subscriptions or repeat services.

K2 Connect V2 includes bulk payments for sending money to multiple recipients in one action. It supports payouts to M-PESA phone numbers and bank accounts, which can help with payroll runs, supplier payments, or daily agent settlements.

On the integration side, K2 Connect V2 adds a Daraja payload switcher for incoming payment responses. Daraja is Safaricom’s M-PESA integration layer, and payloads are the data formats returned by the system. Kopo Kopo says developers can now receive responses in familiar C2B (customer-to-business) and B2B (business-to-business) formats.

The release also improves webhooks, which are real-time notifications sent to your system when something happens, like a successful payment. Better webhooks can help merchants auto-close orders, mark invoices as paid, and reduce manual reconciliation.

Kopo Kopo will continue to support K2 Connect V1 integrations, and says there is no forced migration. Still, it is recommending an upgrade to Version 2 for new features and performance improvements.
