Flutterwave appointed Guo Songmei as regional VP for sales and partnerships across Greater China and Asia to grow Asia to Africa trade payments.
Flutterwave said it has appointed Guo Songmei as regional vice president of sales and partnerships for Greater China and Asia. She will split her time between Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
Flutterwave said Ms. Guo will be responsible for signing up Asian companies that sell to African customers and for building payment partnerships between the two regions.
The company said the hire is part of its push for growth beyond its home markets, as it marks its 10th anniversary.
Flutterwave pointed to trade growth between Asia and Africa, and said payments are often the difficult part for companies operating across both regions. It listed challenges including volatile local currencies, slow settlement, and different regulations across countries.
Flutterwave said companies in East Asia serving African customers processed nearly $1 billion through its platform in the first half of 2025.
Olugbenga Agboola, Flutterwave’s founder and chief executive, said, “The Asia, Africa trade corridor is one of the fastest-growing commercial routes in the world.”
Flutterwave said Ms. Guo will focus on its enterprise products. These include multicurrency accounts, local payout networks, and settlement services across more than 30 African markets. Multicurrency accounts are accounts that can hold and move more than one currency.
Flutterwave said its pitch to Asian companies is that it handles currency risk and delays so they can get paid reliably.
Ms. Guo has more than 20 years of corporate and commercial banking experience across Africa and Asia, according to Flutterwave. The company said she founded and scaled China business units at Stanbic IBTC and Access Bank in Nigeria, and that those desks handled close to $1 billion in cross-border transactions.
Flutterwave also said she managed relationships with Chinese corporations across West Africa for Standard Chartered Bank in Ghana, and held senior corporate banking roles at HSBC in China and at OCBC Bank in Malaysia and Singapore.
Flutterwave said the announcement was made in Beijing, where Mr. Agboola and Mobolaji Bammeke, Flutterwave’s chief compliance officer, attended a forum held by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
