Elevate Pay has launched Elev@Tag, a unique user ID for personal accounts that makes it easier to find users and send or receive free P2P payments.
Elevate Pay has rolled out Elev@Tag, a new identifier that helps users find each other and send or receive P2P payments. P2P means person-to-person transfers, like sending money to a friend inside the same app.
With this update, each personal account gets a unique Elev@Tag. Instead of searching by email address, users can search by this tag to add someone as a payee. A payee is simply a saved recipient.
Elevate Pay says the transfer flow is otherwise unchanged. Existing payees already saved in the app are not affected. Users only need an Elev@Tag when adding a new Elevate Pay user.
The company also says P2P transfers between Elevate Pay users remain free. To receive money, a user can share their Elev@Tag, and the sender can use it to find them and complete the transfer.
Elev@Tag is only available for personal accounts for now. Business accounts do not get Elev@Tags because P2P transfers are not supported for business users at this time.
For fintech apps, reducing friction in “find a user” is a practical way to increase successful transfers and cut down on mistakes. Tags can also be easier to share than emails, especially in chat apps or offline.
This change also hints at a clearer split between personal and business payment features. If Elevate Pay later enables business-to-business or business-to-person transfers, it may need a similar identifier system for merchants and teams.
For now, the update is a small but important product step, aimed at making in-app transfers simpler for frequent users of Elevate Pay.
