Egypt’s FRA approved Menthum to use fintech for investment fund unit subscriptions and trades. The move expands digital non-banking finance services.
Egypt’s Financial Regulatory Authority, FRA, approved four firms to run non-banking finance activities using fintech. One of the approvals is a new authorisation for Menthum Holding for Financial Investments.
Egypt’s FRA approved Menthum Holding for Financial Investments to use fintech, meaning software and online tools, to provide specific investment fund services.
Menthum can now receive subscriptions for investment fund units, basically when investors buy into a fund. It can also receive and execute purchases and redemptions in open-ended funds it is licensed for, meaning investors can buy more units or cash out through a digital channel.
The same FRA committee also issued approvals to other companies. Ashal for Digital Finance was licensed to conduct microfinance using fintech, which is small loans for individuals or micro businesses. Manzil received final licences to conduct consumer finance and mortgage finance activities using fintech. The FRA also approved setting up Azimut Investments, Egypt as a digital platform for private equity and venture capital funds.
The regulator said these approvals fit its wider push to expand access to non-banking financial services, support digital transformation, and keep services efficient while maintaining supervision and consumer protection.
For Menthum, the authorisation is a material business update. It allows the firm to build or expand digital rails for investment fund onboarding and transactions, which can reduce paperwork and shorten processing time.
For the market, the FRA is signalling that more capital markets and investment products can be distributed through regulated fintech channels. This could widen participation in funds, including private equity and venture capital, especially for customers who prefer mobile and online workflows over branch visits.
It also reinforces that Egypt’s non-banking finance sector, which includes areas like mortgage finance, leasing, factoring, securitisation, and insurance, is being steered toward more digital delivery under clear regulatory approvals.
