Electricity Company of Ghana launched a franchise network tied to the ECG PowerApp to help customers pay bills, verify officers, and resolve billing…
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has launched a new franchise network that works alongside the ECG PowerApp and other approved payment channels. ECG says the goal is to strengthen revenue collection and bring support closer to customers.
ECG launched the franchise network on 29 October 2026 at ECG’s Eastern Regional Office in Koforidua. The initiative is led by ECG Managing Director, Ing. Kwame Kpekpena, and the management team.
ECG says the network brings its commercial services to customers’ doorsteps through approved partner companies and individuals. Franchise officers are expected to help customers pay bills, read meters, and resolve billing questions in their own communities.
Hubtel and Polymorph Labs supported the work. The press release says several teams within ECG worked with both companies to make the initiative possible.
Speaking on behalf of Hubtel CEO Alex Bram, Patrick Asare-Frimpong, Head of Products at Hubtel, said the launch is about giving customers “to pay easily, to be served with respect, and to understand what they are paying for.”
ECG positions the ECG PowerApp as a way for customers to buy prepaid electricity credit and pay postpaid bills from their phones. The franchise network is meant to extend support for those services into communities, especially for customers who need help using digital channels or understanding their bills.
ECG also emphasised trust and fraud prevention. Customers can verify a franchise officer on the spot before making a payment or sharing details.
Verification works in two ways. Customers can dial USSD, which is a short code menu used on any phone, by dialing *226# and entering the officer’s staff ID. Or they can use the ECG PowerApp by going to Get Help, then Verify Franchise Office, and entering the staff ID or scanning the QR code on the officer’s identification.
ECG says franchise officers will help customers pay through the ECG PowerApp and *226#. It also says cash payments to officers are not allowed, and that payments must go through ECG’s approved digital channels.
