dLocal is working with Oscilar to upgrade AML transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, and investigations as it scales cross-border payments across 60+ markets.
Cross-border payments company dLocal has selected Oscilar to strengthen its AML and compliance workflows.
The focus is on three core areas. AML transaction monitoring checks payment activity for suspicious patterns that could signal money laundering. Sanctions screening checks customers and counterparties against restricted party lists. Case management helps compliance teams investigate alerts and document decisions.
Oscilar says its platform gives dLocal more flexibility to tune rules and thresholds by market. That matters because dLocal operates across 60+ markets and supports 1,000+ alternative payment methods. Alternative payment methods include mobile money, local bank transfers, and wallets, which often have different risk signals than card payments.
According to the announcement, the system is designed for complex cross-border payment flows, including transactions with multiple parties. It also aims to support local data governance requirements, for example, rules that limit which compliance analysts can access certain data.
Oscilar also highlights the use of AI agents, which are software tools that can complete steps in a workflow on their own, like gathering information for an investigation. The company says human reviewers keep final decision authority.
As cross-border payment volumes grow across Africa and other emerging markets, compliance teams face more alerts and more varied regulatory requirements.
For payment companies, AML operations can become a scaling bottleneck. If first-level alerts take close to an hour to investigate, costs rise quickly as volumes increase. Tools that reduce manual work and improve audit trails can help firms expand into more markets and payment methods without growing compliance headcount at the same rate.
For merchants using dLocal, stronger and faster compliance processes can also reduce payment friction, such as delayed settlements or blocked transactions caused by review queues.
