Ctrack joined SAMTEA’s E hailing Electric Vehicle Project with BYD and Bolt, bringing fleet management tools to support EV adoption in South Africa.
The project was launched at BYD Sandton and brings together taxi industry bodies, electric vehicles, e hailing technology, and fleet management.
The project combines SAMTEA and South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) industry leadership with BYD electric vehicle technology, Bolt’s e hailing platform, and Ctrack fleet management solutions.
The partners said the collaboration aims to support electric mobility adoption in South Africa. It also aims to help address operational and skills requirements linked to moving to new vehicle technologies.
As the fleet management technology partner, Ctrack said it is contributing its Connected Vehicle solution. Ctrack described this as extending beyond traditional vehicle tracking, and bringing together 12 capabilities across safety and recovery, vehicle and driver intelligence, and connectivity and fleet management.
Ctrack said these capabilities are designed to support three areas in e hailing operations. The first is safety, including panic buttons, driver monitoring, breathalysers, and vehicle security solutions. The second is fleet monitoring, using Crystal Fleet Software and connected vehicle technologies to give operators visibility into vehicle activity, driving behaviour, and operational performance. The third is operational efficiency, including decisions on vehicle utilisation, downtime, fleet performance, and operational planning.
Ctrack General Manager Kabelo Khaas said, “At Ctrack, we believe connected vehicle technology plays an important role in making that possible. Through this collaboration, we are bringing together safety, intelligence and fleet management capabilities to help turn innovation into practical value for drivers, operators and passengers.”
The initiative positions connected vehicle intelligence, meaning data from vehicles used to understand performance and usage, as part of daily electric e hailing operations. The partners also put emphasis on preparing drivers for professional passenger transport operations and responsible electric vehicle use, linking skills development with technology adoption.
