Cleva and Tether have launched a new university program in Nigeria.

What Happened

Cleva and Tether announced the Cleva x Tether Campus Storm on September 1, 2026. It is a university-focused education and empowerment program that aims to build student knowledge around digital finance, financial innovation, and emerging technologies.

The program started at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in Zaria. Organisers said more than 700 students attended the first event.

Sessions covered digital finance and global payments, plus stablecoins. Stablecoins are crypto tokens designed to track the value of a currency like the US dollar, which can make transfers feel like sending digital dollars.

The ABU stop also included a hackathon, meaning a short build event where teams create prototypes fast. Student teams pitched ideas aimed at real-world problems, including possible financial technology use cases for stablecoins.

Cleva and Tether said the Campus Storm will continue at additional universities across Nigeria in the coming months.

African fintech adoption is rising, but many users and builders still struggle with the basics of how digital payments and crypto assets work. University programs like this can build early understanding of concepts like stablecoins, wallets, and cross-border transfers.
