Individuals find the right products. Businesses reach the right audience. One platform, free for both.
Citi Commerce Media is a new ads and measurement platform using credit card transaction insights. Citi says Kard will expand rewards and targeting.
Citi Commerce Media is Citi’s new media platform for brands to reach U.S. credit card customers. It uses transaction data, ad placements across Citi’s apps and sites, and reporting to measure results.
Citi has launched Citi Commerce Media, a media and advertising platform built inside its U.S. Consumer Cards business.
Citi Commerce Media aims to help brands reach people during the purchase journey, meaning while they are browsing, considering, or buying.
The platform uses first-party transaction data, which is spending and purchase information Citi already has from card activity. Citi says it can use these signals to identify high-intent audiences, meaning groups of customers who look more likely to buy a certain product based on past and current spending patterns.
Citi says the platform runs ads and offers across its digital ecosystem, including Citi.com, the Citi Mobile app, and paid media placements.
It also includes “closed-loop measurement”, which means Citi can connect an ad campaign to what happened next, such as whether customers later made purchases with their Citi cards. That helps advertisers estimate return on ad spend, which is how much revenue they get back for every dollar spent on ads.
Citi says early campaigns across categories like retail, payments, technology, and beauty and wellness showed strong performance. One online retailer saw up to 5x incremental return on ad spend, which is the lift above what would have happened without the campaign.
Citi also said the planned addition of Kard, a commerce media and rewards platform it has agreed to acquire, will expand Citi Commerce Media’s capabilities. Rewards platforms manage offers and cashback-style incentives, and they can make it easier for brands to drive repeat purchases and loyalty.
For brands, commerce media is becoming a bigger part of marketing budgets because it promises better targeting and clearer measurement than many traditional digital ads.
For fintech and payments operators watching from Africa, Citi’s move is another signal that banks want to monetise their data and app traffic, not just issue cards and process payments.
It also raises the bar on privacy and governance, because transaction data is sensitive. As more financial institutions build ad products, scrutiny on consent, data use rules, and brand safety is likely to increase.
