Bonitas 2027 plans add a risk-funded GP visit within 14 days after wellness screening flags a risk, plus a bigger Benefit Booster up to R12,000.
Bonitas 2027 product updates focus on preventive care and everyday value. The medical scheme is adding a risk-funded GP consultation within 14 days after a wellness screening flags a potential health risk. It is also expanding its Benefit Booster by 140%, offering families up to R12,000 in extra value.
Bonitas Medical Fund unveiled its 2027 product range, positioning it around early detection, wellness support, and long-term sustainability in South Africa’s open medical scheme market.
A key change is a new “GP Confirmation Benefit”. In plain terms, if a health risk assessment (a basic screening like blood pressure, glucose, or BMI checks) suggests a potential issue, eligible members can see a general practitioner without paying out of pocket, as long as the visit happens within 14 days. Bonitas says the goal is to reduce drop off between screening and follow-up care.
Bonitas also expanded where members can access wellness screenings. Its provider network now includes Dis-Chem pharmacies, plus Clicks and Medirite. Bonitas said around 95% of members live within 10km of a health risk assessment provider, and members now have access to more than 1,245 pharmacies nationwide for basic screening.
On rewards and value, the Benefit Booster is set to grow by 140% for 2027 and will offer up to R12,000 in additional value per family. For the first time, it will also be available on the BonCap income-based plan. Bonitas is also adding new partners to its B-Value lifestyle platform, including Takealot and Checkers Sixty60.
Bonitas said the average contribution increase across plans for 2027 will be 8.7%.
For members, the GP Confirmation Benefit is a practical attempt to connect “screening” to “treatment”, which is where many preventive health programs fail.
For the wider health and insurance ecosystem, pharmacy-based screening networks can reduce pressure on clinics and encourage earlier intervention. The 8.7% average contribution increase also matters in a tight economy, since affordability remains a key reason people downgrade or exit medical aid coverage.
