Boldswitch has launched U.S. bank accounts for Nigerians, targeting freelancers and entrepreneurs who need faster USD payments, transfers, and virtual cards.
Boldswitch says its new U.S. bank account product gives Nigerians direct access to the U.S. financial system, without relying on intermediaries.
In practical terms, it aims to make cross-border payments simpler for people earning in dollars. Instead of waiting days for an international transfer, users can receive payments from U.S. employers and clients into a U.S.-based account number.
Boldswitch also says customers can send money instantly to other U.S. accounts. The company is also offering virtual USD cards, which are digital card numbers that can be used for online spending, like a regular debit card but without a physical card.
The fintech lists common international platforms where the virtual card can be used, including Amazon, Netflix, Google, PayPal, Uber, Airbnb, and ad platforms like Meta Ads and TikTok Ads.
As part of its launch offer, Boldswitch says it is waiving fees for Nigerian freelancers who receive payments from U.S. clients.
For many Nigerian freelancers, getting paid from the U.S. often involves slow settlement times, unclear FX rates, and multiple fees across banks and payment processors.
A U.S. account product can reduce friction by making payments feel local to the payer. That matters for contract work, remote employment, and export services, where payment speed and predictability affect cash flow.
This launch also signals continued competition in Nigeria’s cross-border payments market, where fintechs are bundling USD accounts, virtual cards, and payouts into one app to win remote workers and small businesses.
