AXA Mansard and Lagos DSVA are running door-to-door sensitisation in six communities for AXA Week for Good 2026, to curb child domestic and sexual abuse.
AXA Mansard said it has partnered with the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, DSVA, to deepen awareness and prevention of domestic and sexual violence against children in Lagos.
The campaign sits under AXA Week for Good 2026, part of the company’s employee volunteering programme. This year’s focus shifts from schools to communities, with volunteers visiting homes and speaking directly with parents, caregivers, and community leaders.
DSVA will provide technical support, including training and guidance for the volunteers. The outreach is designed to help residents understand warning signs of abuse, learn safe parenting practices, and use reporting channels when cases occur.
AXA Mansard’s Chief Marketing Officer, Adebola Surakat, said the community focus reflects how abuse often happens. She cited statistics that over 60 percent of child domestic and sexual violence cases are linked to people known to the child, meaning risks frequently sit within homes and familiar settings.
The company also referenced its 2025 collaboration with DSVA, which focused on school-based interventions to educate children and teachers. It said employee participation in volunteering remains high, with 2025 seeing about 96 percent of employees contributing time to volunteer efforts.
For Nigeria’s private sector, this is another example of corporate social responsibility moving beyond donations into structured programmes with measurable activities, like training and community coverage.
For Lagos communities, door-to-door sensitisation can reduce underreporting, which is often driven by fear and stigma. DSVA’s Executive Secretary, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, said violence thrives in silence and ignorance, and that continuous public education is needed.
For founders and operators building services in health, education, and community support, the campaign highlights a practical model for partnering with government agencies. It combines grassroots engagement with formal escalation paths, which is critical when the issue involves child protection and law enforcement follow-through.
