In Short

A delegation of Algerian startups is attending London Tech Week 2026 in London. The trip is part of UK-Africa Ecosystem Week, a new Africa-focused program inside the conference.

What Happened

Algerian startups are in London this week for London Tech Week 2026, as Algeria pushes its tech ecosystem to expand beyond the local market.

Algeriaโ€™s Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Startups and Micro-Enterprises confirmed the countryโ€™s participation in a statement carried by the Algerian Press Service.

London Tech Week runs from June 8 to June 10. Organizers expect more than 100,000 participants and around 600 international speakers.

The startups are attending through UK-Africa Ecosystem Week. It is a pan-African initiative launched in May by the UK Department for Business and Trade, working with UK-Africa Sandbox and Ventures 54. This is the first time the initiative has been integrated into London Tech Week.

For founders, the program is not only about booth traffic. It includes a dedicated Africa business space for meetings, themed panel discussions, and tailored support. There is also a full day focused on entering the UK market, meaning practical guidance on selling, hiring, and setting up operations in the UK.

The delegation also gets access to an international investor network. The investor list includes firms like Andreessen Horowitz, Atomico, and Balderton Capital, investors that can be hard to reach from Algiers.

Why It Matters

Algeria has a government target of creating 20,000 startups by 2029. More than 7,800 companies are already registered on Startup.dz, according to the ministry.

But building at home is only one part of scaling. Many Algerian founders still face structural barriers to international market access, including fundraising networks, distribution partnerships, and credible pathways to sell in Europe.

London Tech Week is an early public test of that global ambition. If the delegation converts meetings into pilots, partnerships, or term sheets, it could signal a clearer route for Algeriaโ€™s startups into UK and European tech networks.
