Under the partnership, ACRE Africa is expected to support member states to design and strengthen national agricultural insurance schemes. Agricultural insurance is cover that pays farmers when specific losses happen, such as failed rainfall or damaged crops.
COMESA also said the partnership will cover climate risk management and digital tools. This can include software and data systems that help governments and insurers price risk, enrol farmers, and process claims faster.
